Bing- Is a Google Killer?

Tuesday, June 16, 2009
In search presentation, Bing wins. It uses technology from Powerset (a search technology company Microsoft acquired) to display refined versions of your query down the left side of the page. For example, I searched for the game "Fallout 3" on Google and Bing. While Google gave me good results, Bing gave me a menu of "related searches" that included Walkthrough, News, and so on.
  • Bing also pop ups an excerpt of the text on a search result if you hover over it. This saves a lot of time if you're not quite sure if you want to follow a result.
  •  And in some searches, Bing won on results outright. When searching for "Obama Supreme Court," Google did show news results, but the top link was a day-old story. Bing's was from 32 minutes ago.
  • In the content of search results, Bing is not consistently superior to Google.

  • The main distinguishing part of bing which google must learn is parental control. Its a best search engine for children to use. It doesn't provide any porn results in its search instead:
  • I planned to write this story with the headline, "Bing -isn't a google killer," but the new engine won me over at current situation. For the moment, Bing's on top in this game. Try this search engine. I do not think you will regret it.

But its the current scenario  and Google will obliterate it, but not soon as it did for Yahoo..

What's Bings Previous name?

Before release, bing had an another name called "KUMO"

But at finall release it has been reviled as "BING" similary how the "VISTA" was named after "LONGHORN"..

It always happens at Microsoft before a release of their new service. It might be to intrigue the vendors.

Bing - Decision Engine

Apparently having the vast majority of the world's operating system and Internet browser market wasn't enough for Microsoft. Now they've set their sights on Google by designing a next-generation search engine with the express goal of unseating the mediagenic king of Internet searches.

'Bing' is the new search engine's final name, and Microsoft has put 80-100 million dollars into Bing's ad campaign to make sure that everyone knows it.

Unveiled by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer on May 28, 2009 at the All Things Digital conference in San Diego, Bing is a replacement for Live Search.

Bing (formerly Live Search, Windows Live Search and MSN Search) is a decision engine.

Bing also provides the following search offerings:

  • Health
  • Images
  • Local
  • Maps
  • News
  • Shopping
  • Translator
  • Travel
  • Videos
  • xRank
